An afternoon in Covent Garden for £20

We all know Covent Garden is frequented by tourists from all over the world, thus meaning most food and drink options are higher than other less known places around the capital.

Living in London we’re still partial to a walk around to see the sites, watch the street performers and the famous Jubilee Market.

Like our previous guides, we are aiming for Lunch, Snack/Pint and Dinner for £20.

“IT CAN’T BE DONE” I hear you cry.

Let’s give it a go!

Lunch £5.50 spent

Surprisingly there are some great lunch options. Seven Dials Market is a great spot and as a food hall has plenty of options. But what we are looking for is something for around £5/6.

Which led us to Neal’s Yard and the St John’s Bakery (3 Neal's Yard, London WC2H 9DP). They do a sandwich for £5.50 and they are fabulous. No thrill, just top quality ingredients, from egg mayo to cheese & pickle. They are a great option.

A little hack for you. If there are two of you share the sandwich (they are like giant door stops) and treat yourself to a famous St John’s donut. Tristan systematically inhaled his, they are sooo good.

Snack/pint £4.95 spent

There’s a chance you’ll be in Covent Garden with your family, so children may be part of the group.

So a pint may be a tricky thing to sit and enjoy. If you do want a pint, you can’t go wrong with The Porterhouse (21-22 Maiden Ln, London WC2E 7NA) where you can get a pint of Peroni for £5.30. That’s super cheap for Central London.

But for a snack, we recommend getting yourself an ice cream which you can enjoy whilst strolling around in the sun, soaking in the hustle and bustle of this famous place.

For this, you want to head to Udderlicious (24 Earlham St, London WC2H 9LN), where you can get a generous tub of ice cream for £4.95. It’s a simple option with plenty of flavours to please everyone.

Dinner £10 spent

As with previous guides we want dinner to be a meal where you can sit and take a weight off after walking around all afternoon. That made this the trickiest part. It’s near impossible to get anywhere close to budget, but not impossible.

Up steps Bancone (39 William IV St, London WC2N 4DD), you’ll definitely need to book! But when they are offering Bucatini Cacio e Pepe for £10 you can understand why there’s always a queue.

DAILY TOTAL SPEND

Lunch £5.50

Snack/pint £4.95

Dinner £10

Total Spend = £20.45

OK, we know we didn’t get it under £20. An afternoon in Covent Garden and you haven’t stepped foot near a MacDonalds or a Weatherspoons?

An overspend of 45p is a win in our books. You’re welcome :)
