An afternoon in Shoreditch for £20

Join us for an afternoon in Shoreditch, £20 in our pockets. Can we get lunch, an experience, a pint and some dinner all within budget?

Lunch £5 spent

To start your Shoreditch afternoon. You need fuel.

Shoreditch has a multitude of choices when it comes to street food from all over the world. Also bloody expensive!

This led to a little place called Gjons. Where you can get a huge Pitta Wrap for £5 (Chicken or Pork Gyros/Souvlaki & Chips Wrapped in Pitta Bread) It's up there with one of the best things we have eaten in Shoreditch. It's an absolute winner.

56 Paul St, London EC2A 4LN

Experience £0 spent

The area has over the years become synonymous with artists of various genres from music to fine art (it’s the home to the Royal Drawing School). But what sets Shoreditch apart is its top tier graffiti and street art.

We recommend getting yourselves booked onto the Free Street Art and Graffiti Walking Tour where you will see work from artists such as Zabou and Roa and some fella called Banksy.

Tours run twice a day (11am and 2pm) and lasts about 2hrs. Ours lasted just over.

Starting Point: Shoreditch High Street Overground Station

Street art near brick lane east london
Street art by artist Zabou

A pint £5.60 spent

This is a tricky one, there are some great places to grab a pint. The Owl and the Pussy Cat, the Ten Bells and the Blind Beggar (although this is more Whitechapel than Shoreditch).

We have chosen the Culpepper for our pub of choice, Voted Europe's best rooftop bar in 2021 and it is an absolute gem.

A pint of Pravha will set you back £5.60 and in London terms that is pretty reasonable.

So sit back and enjoy whilst we decide what to do for dinner.

40 Commercial St, London E1 6LP

Dinner £8.15 spent

Let's do this. We could play it easy and just say grab some street food somewhere and you would probably have some change. But no, we want to sit down to eat at a restaurant. We enjoy making life difficult.

There are actually some good options. Enso’s on Brick Lane (Japanese and Thai flavours) where you can get a banging Massaman Curry for £7.95 but this only leaves you with the option of an accompaniment of H2O.

So we recommend Pizza Union. Well known for its cheap (but great) eats status. Where you can get a 12’’ Margarita and a beer for £8.15. It's an absolute steal and is a great way to round off a day out in Shoreditch.
