The Baring

Islington is definitely the prime centre of London’s gastropub scene right now, with the likes of The Pig & Butcher and The Drapers Arms leading the way to show the rest of the city how to do pub food. And, after a recent renovation, The Baring is pushing those boundaries again with a gorgeous reinvention serving some fantastic dishes.

Known for cooking lovely sustainably-sourced dishes, we were lucky enough to visit during one of their Sunday BBQ sessions. Everything is cooked on the BBQ, from delicate salads like the Salt cod, Red Russian Tomato & Sea Aster, to delicious kebabs like the Pork Echine Shish & Ajo Blanco. But we kid you not when we say that the Grilled Wild Mushrooms, Baked Rice & Egg Yolk is one of the very best dishes we have had this year. Get your hands on it now.

Pared back minimalist decorations done right, with excellent unusual food, inventive cocktails (Tequila & Pet Nat Spritz!), and super lovely staff, makes this one a stunning hidden gem for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
