The Barbary Next Door

The Barbary in Neal's Yard has long been one of the best restaurants in London. To my welcome surprise they brewed up a new concept during lockdown and opened up The Barbary Next Door. This small cosy cute venue, right next door to The Barbary (clue's in the name), brings all its parent's personality with an informal style the French would call a bit of I-don't-know-what. Grab a seat at the counter and strike up a convo with one of the amazing staff who will top up your drinks as needed and bring you all the bread and dip any one human needs.

Honestly I could just eat the bread all day long. But on top of that you've got some great salads/fresh dishes (Sunset Crudo, mwah) and, oh yes, some amazing slow cooked dishes. The Lamb Mechoui just melted in my mouth. However my fave was the Chicken Pastilla, as I've never had a savoury dish like this with icing sugar sprinkled on top. The sweet and savoury one-two kick was fantastic, really original. And don't skimp on the desserts - the Sfenj is a fluffy round donut, perfect for dunking into a chocolate orange dip mmmmmmm. Perfect place for a chilled evening out? I most definitely think so.
