Highgate Cemetery
Beautiful, peaceful.
Living in London, one can get a bit overwhelmed with the hectic speed of life, the mass of concrete towers everywhere, the hordes of people rushing to their next meeting. This is why Highgate Cemetery is an absolute gem of a location in London. Highgate Cemetery is in the middle of a really busy area of London, however once you are inside you could be in the middle of the countryside in a forest in Scotland.
It's quiet. It's serene. It's everything you need to throw off the dust of work, and embrace the mindfullness and beauty of the space. The most famous resident here is Karl Marx, however you can find so many special people here. And famous pets!
Hint of the day: Although you can turn up and go into the East Cemetery, I'd strongly suggest to book in advance so you can also go into the West Cemetery, which has great guided tours. Oh, one more tip - read Audrey Niffenegger's Her Fearful Symmetry - not only is a fantastic read but it's set in and around Highgate Cemetery so will endear the space to you even more.
