Prospect of Whitby
Old school riverside drinking.
The Thames is a majestic serpent swirling through the centre of London and we are its humble subjects just happy to bask in its presence. And apart from this somewhat stretched metaphor it is completely true that we are all better people when we spend some quality time by the water. So where better to spend a summer’s day than at the Prospect of Whitby in Wapping, London’s oldest riverside tavern.
Buy yourself a pint of something yummy (cider!) and grab a seat overlooking the river. You’re sure to have a few dogs chilling out that you can play with, and plenty of people (and boat) watching that you can be doing too. If you’re lucky you can spot some of the mudlarks scavenging the shores of the Thames at low tide looking for some treasures that have washed up.
Tip of the day: There are some beautiful river walks you can do around here so plan a bit ahead and either end up at the Prospect or start there before your trek. Or both!
