In one of London’s best museums, the Natural History Museum, is one of London’s best hidden secret tours. The items on display in the museum itself are just the tip of the iceberg and through the Spirit Collection Tour you are able to go down into the depths of building to see some of the parts that most people don’t get to experience.
So named because you are seeing millions of animals that are preserved in spirits, some of them now extinct. A lot of these specimens date back to Darwin’s voyages, including the famous Darwin’s Octopus. See leatherback turtles, deep sea fish, vampire squid, bats, platypuses (platypusi?), crabs, snakes, see-through mole rats. The list goes on and on and it’s fascinating.
Hint of the day: Let’s face it, it’s all about the tank room. And specifically that giant squid. Archie is one cool customer. ❤️
